Hypatia Lake’s new album is out today! It’s already hitting the charts at radio and landed at #154 on the CMJ Top 200. Not bad for a first week. Apparently a dozen or so stations even charted the record. The songs “The General’s Gleaming Edge” and “Jeremiah, Close Your Eyes Now” seem to be some of the favorites out there and are getting a lot of airplay. The Reverb contingent are traveling up to Seattle for the big CD release show this Saturday, July 19th at the new King Cobra venue. If you’re in the neighborhood, come by and we’ll pour some champagne on you to celebrate.

A few months ago, Sasha (of Sasha & Digweed fame) asked us if he could remix the High Violet’s song “Invitation.” Of course we complied and handed over the separated tracks. The remix was to be included alongside Thom York and Ladytron remixes (among others) on Sasha’s new album, Involver II. Nice eh? Uh, not really. We just got word that the remix wasn’t actually chosen for the final tracklist and Sasha’s label/management aren’t able to release it to us to hear. Apparently it may be released “at a future date,” but until then we’ve just kinda been left in the dark. Why don’t you email him or his people and let them know you want to hear it?

May 20, 2008
You can all see The High Violets on TV station PDX49 on May 21st between 5-8pm. The station interviewed the band at a recent show here in Portland at the Doug Fir Lounge. The songs are definitely a step in a different direction for the band and if this EP is anything to go by, Lab Partners new album is going to be something pretty special. The title song "Keep Quiet" is one of the edgier and catchier songs the band have recorded. Brilliant.

The wonderful debut album from Drakes Hotel is scheduled for a release this May. Entitled, "Tell Me Everything," the 11 song album is filled with songs inspired from their travels, having lived in Santa Cruz, Seattle, Iowa and now Omaha over the past few years. The Upsidedown's new video "Human Destination" just won the Grand Prize at The Landmark Theater's Little Big Film Festival. Directed by Justin Adams, the video was recently filmed in Los Angeles in High Definition, It captures the band playing their new song live with a tightly woven and masterfully constructed puzzle of extreme close-up shots. Unfortunately the rest of the world will have to wait to see the video and to hear their new song; the band are still hibernating in the recording studio and getting ever so close to finishing off their new album.
