Formed by the three brothers Barrett sometime in the late 90’s, the band crossed the path of Reverb Records shortly thereafter and quickly became the second ever signing to the label. Reverb released their debut album from entitled 'Eskimo Beach Boy' in 2001. US College radio immediately took to it and amazing reviews began pouring in. Several limited edition singles were released from the album including:

‘Ballad of Greedy Man’ was released as their first single/mini-EP and features an amazing mix of ‘Sidewalk Monkey Typhoid’ as well as the surreal ‘Eggplants Love In.’ It also features ‘C’Mon,’ the beautiful solo debut by singer Dermot Barrett. The surreal video for the single features none other than Reverb’s head-honcho who “drives the bus.”

‘Death to Disco’ featured the “World’s 1st 360° Interactive Music Video.” It’s an amazing video for the song ‘Hang On Starlight’ that allows the viewer to see everything going on at once in the surreal environs of the video shoot at ‘Crane Lane’.

‘January’ was released to a warm reception at radio in both Ireland and in the US. The single features an outtake from the original “Lost Version” of the album ‘Eskimo Beach Boy’ called ‘Johnny Mexicano.’ It also features the live favorite ‘Travellin’ America’.

Unfortunately Tenspeedracer broke up shortly after releasing its follow-up album on their publishers label Red Flag Recordings.  Their follow-up to 'Eskimo Beach Boy' was simply titled "10SR" and while it got great reviews in both Ireland and the UK and legendary radio stations Radio 1, Virgin Radio and XFM all got behind the release, it just wasn’t enough to hold the band together.

Fortunately the band has spawned several amazing solo outings, namely from John Barrett, Pat Barrett, Dermot Barret and Joe Chester. The band live on in their recordings, however. “Eskimo Beach Boy” is indeed an amazing record.
